YouTube Shorts Thumbnail Downloader
Grab the thumbnail from any YouTube Short in the highest quality available — no signup, no watermark. Works exactly like our main thumbnail downloader, just built for Shorts links specifically.
Paste a link to get started
No account, no watermark — just the thumbnail.
How It Works
Copy a Shorts link — it looks like youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID — paste it above, and pick the resolution you need. Since every Short is technically a regular YouTube video underneath, the same resolution rules apply. If a size you expect is missing, our guide on why max resolution isn't always available explains exactly why.
Copy the video link
Open the Short in YouTube. Use Share → Copy link, or copy its full address from your browser.
Paste it into ThumbGrab
Paste the URL into the box above. A preview check starts on paste; you can also select Get Thumbnail.
Save the image
Choose an available result and select Download. Look for the saved image in your browser’s downloads. Copy URL copies a link instead of saving the file.

This example uses a public Short with a /shorts/ link. The link was entered into this page’s downloader. Its Standard Quality download link returned a JPEG, and the saved image was opened to check its contents.
This preview is center-cropped to 9:16 to show the Short vertically without stretching it. Downloading the Standard Quality result still saves the original thumbnail file, including its side panels.
To repeat the check, copy this URL, paste it above, and download the Standard Quality result:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work with youtube.com/shorts/ links?
Yes — paste the Shorts URL exactly as it appears in your address bar or the YouTube app’s share sheet. It’s detected and handled automatically, the same as a regular video link.
Are Shorts thumbnails stored differently from regular video thumbnails?
No — a Short is still just a YouTube video under the hood, so it uses the exact same thumbnail file system and size options. See our full guide on every YouTube thumbnail size and dimension.
Can I get a 4K or HD thumbnail from a Short?
You’ll get the highest resolution YouTube actually generated for that specific video, exactly like with a regular video — it depends on what the creator uploaded, not on the fact that it’s a Short. True 4K thumbnails don’t actually exist on YouTube — see why in our guide on 4K YouTube thumbnails.
