How to Save YouTube Thumbnails on iPhone and Android
Start here: copy the video link, open ThumbGrab in Safari or Chrome, paste the link, and tap Download below the thumbnail you want. A downloaded JPG may go to Files or Downloads before it appears in your photo library.
Save a YouTube Thumbnail on iPhone
- In YouTube, open the video and use Share → Copy link. Use a video link, not a channel or search-results page.
- Open Safari and visit the thumbnail downloader. Paste the copied link into the video box. Tap Get Thumbnail if results have not appeared.
- Choose a result and tap its Download link. If Safari asks you to confirm downloading, confirm that image download.
- Tap Safari’s Downloads button near the search field to find the saved file. Alternatively, open Files → Browse and check your Downloads folder in iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your settings.
- To place the JPG in Photos, open it in Files and use the Share menu’s image-saving option if available. Menu wording can vary by iOS version. Keeping it in Files also lets you select it in editors that support file imports.
If an image opens instead of downloading, touch and hold the actual image to look for a save option. Do not save the whole webpage. For Safari’s download location and controls, see Apple’s download instructions.
Download a YouTube Thumbnail on Android
- Copy the video’s share link from YouTube and open ThumbGrab in Chrome.
- Paste the link and choose Get Thumbnail if needed. Tap Download under the result you want.
- Open Chrome’s three-dot menu and choose Downloads. You can also look in your phone’s Files or My Files app under Downloads.
- Open the JPG to confirm it is the correct thumbnail. If your Gallery does not list it, open it from Downloads or import that file directly into your editor.
If Chrome opens the image in a tab, touch and hold it and choose Download image. Google documents this option in its Android download instructions. In-app browsers may show different controls; open the page in your normal browser if the download control is missing.
Save a 9:16 Shorts Crop
A Shorts video can have a thumbnail file with a different shape. Use the Shorts downloader, choose Crop & download below a result, and select 9:16 — vertical / Shorts. Move the horizontal and vertical sliders to keep the subject inside the preview. Zoom only if you need a tighter crop, then tap Download cropped JPG.
The displayed pixel dimensions describe the saved crop. Zooming removes more pixels; it cannot restore detail. Use the separate original Download link if you want the complete image. See the full-image and crop comparison before removing text or faces at the edges.
If the Download Looks Wrong
